ALL AISD SCHOOLS MEET

STATE ACCOUNTABILITY STANDARDS

The District’s Academic Performance Continues to Show Student Growth and Improvement

Amarillo ISD and all of its schools met the state’s standard on aca-

demic performance, according to 2017 accountability ratings. The 

last time all the campuses met the standard was 2014. 

The district’s latest graduation rate has increased more than three 

points to 92.8 percent. Data comparisons for STAAR exam scores show 

AISD students outperform their peers around the state in a majority of 

tests. Math and science remain strong areas for the district. 

“We are proud to see continued academic growth in our district,” said 

Dr. Dana West, AISD Superintendent. “I’ve said many times that a test 

score cannot be the sole measure of success. Scores can, however, 

identify overall areas of strength and weakness which helps us target 

instruction to see improvement and growth.”

Overall, the results indicate that the district is academically on track, 

even as the accountability standards increase in diffi culty. 

“AISD scholars are generally performing better than the state,” 

explained Dr. West. “We will stay committed to our vision of empow-

ering scholars to be thinkers, communicators, collaborators and 

contributors and our mission to graduate those scholars prepared for 

success beyond high school.”

AISD schools received a total of 133 distinguished awards with 

Whittier Elementary and de Zavala Middle School receiving the maxi-

mum amount of distinctions for their level.
